King Shaka International Airport
King Shaka International Airport is one of the biggest KZN projects which was targeted to be completed before soccer world cup. The project value was approximately R450 million. Matla Consulting was responsible for Electrical design and construction monitoring of the following buildings and substations: Cargo building, Multi storage offices, Multi storage parkade, Crash fire & rescue, Maintenance buildings x3, Apron ground handling services x3, Apron staff processing, Refuse sorting building, Trade zone substation, Support zone substation, Fuel farm substation, Cargo substation, MSP substation, Site street lighting, DTP 11kV Reticulation.








Ulumbe Electrification Project
A rural settlement under the jurisdiction of Mtonjaneni Local Municipality. The project outcome supplied 351 customers with electricity. Infrastructure consisting of; 30km overhead Medium Voltage (MV) Fox conductor, 36km of overhead Low Voltage (LV) insulated conductor and 40 new transformers. Project value approx. R8.2m





Pearls of Umhlanga
The project comprised of professional electrical engineering consulting services at the upper class apartment, high rise building complex Pearl Reef, Tides A, Tides B and Breeze to provide designs and construction management for the substation electrical, LV reticulation, electrical installation, standby generator, lightning protection, telephone, intercom, fire detection, home automation, CCTV, CATV, data and access.





Lilani African Hotsprings Development
The Lilani Hotsprings in the rural area between Greytown and Kranskop offer visitors a tranquil weekend getaway - only two hours from Durban and one from Pietermaritzburg. A hotel was built there in the fifties and hosted many a grand ball for people from all over the Umvoti County and further afield. The hotel closed down in the late sixties. In the late 1990's the Kwazulu-Natal Tourism Authority received funding from the Poverty Alleviation fund of the National Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism for the development of the Lilani Hot Springs. Lilani has grown into a "must-see" tourism attraction.





Golden Horse Casino
Matla Consulting was brought on to this project as the 25% BEE consulting electrical engineer with a total project value of R16.7m. The casino comprises a casino with 450 slot machines and 18 tables; a 120-room hotel; a 300-seat conference facility and associated retail in the form of speciality stores, pubs and restaurants. A museum will pay homage to Zulu leader King Dingane, an equestrian museum explores the role of the horse in civilisation and a science village, Science Fundi, provides an interactive, hands-on scientific experience. Children’s entertainment is provided at a purpose-built crèche.

Ushaka Marine World
The provision of expertise and professional consulting project management services, for one day per week over six months, to manage the waterproofing of the uShaka Sea World Mammal Pools in accordance with the South African Council for Project and Construction Management Professions Guideline Scope of Services.



Georgedale Northdene and Lotus Park 88kV Refurbishment Project
The Georgedale Northdene 88kV transmission feeder is 33.5km long comprising a total of 212 structures. 20 are H pole wood structures with 1 concrete mono pole.
The Georgedale Lotuspark 88kV transmission feeder is 73.282km long comprising a total of 400 structures. 20 are H pole wood structures, there are 19 concrete “h” Poles and 1 concrete mono pole structure.
The line falls under the Cato Ridge TSC and was investigated as part of the Hammersdale NDP. The findings of the NDP investigation triggered a refurbishment project. The project began and was not completed due to inter alia, the inability to secure outages on the line as a result of the Ethekwini Municipality Lotus Park 88kV transformer failure. As a result of the outage constraints, the existing project was concluded and a refurbishment scope initiated.




Westville Prison
Westville prison is located on the outskirts of Durban and is a major prison which provides rehabilitation and incarcination to convicted criminals. Our involvement in this project was to provide professional consulting services and project management regarding the repair and maintenance of the electrical infrastructure and to the security system. Westville prison was successfully closed with a project value of over R50 Million. The major task with working on this project was to complete the project within a fully functional prison.

GJ Crookes Hospital
GJ Crookes Hospital is a 4 storey new casualty, trauma and admissions district hospital located in Scottburgh to cater for the health needs of the surrounding communities. The project is a 4 phase project with phases 1, 2 and 3 successfully completed and phases 4 currently in construction. The project has an estimated construction value over R100 Million and a project duration of 33 months of which our involvement included professional consulting services which consisted the following, electrical design of the buildings, MV and LV cable reticulation, substation design, street lighting, provide specifications on specialized hospital equipment, LED lighting and energy efficient solutions to ensure a state of the heart hospital.
